Today's Weather Update: IMD Issues Red Alert for Several States Due to Heavy Rainfall

IMD Heavy Rain Red Alert : The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several western and southern states due to extremely heavy rainfall. According to the IMD, red alerts have been issued for different parts of Konkan, Goa, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka, Saurashtra and Kutch, and Central Maharashtra.

State-wise Weather Forecast

  • Konkan and Goa: Northern Konkan districts are likely to experience extremely heavy rainfall in some areas, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in the districts of South Konkan-Goa.
  • Central Maharashtra: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the ghat areas of North Central Maharashtra. Similar conditions are anticipated in the ghat areas of South Central Maharashtra.
  • Marathwada: Scattered thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds blowing at speeds of 30-40 km/h are expected.
  • Western Madhya Pradesh: An orange alert for very heavy rainfall has been issued for July 16.
  • Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana: Very heavy rainfall is expected on July 18 and 19.

Weather Updates for Other Regions

  • North India: Heavy rainfall is likely in Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan from July 15 to 19. Western Uttar Pradesh on July 17-18, and Himachal Pradesh on July 17-18, are also expected to experience heavy rainfall.
  • East and Northeast India: Odisha is likely to experience heavy rainfall from July 15-19. Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim are expected to have rain on July 16.
  • South India: Heavy rainfall is predicted in Telangana, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Chhattisgarh, and North Interior Karnataka from July 15-19. Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are also likely to see heavy rainfall on July 16.

Given these warnings, the IMD advises people to exercise caution. Avoid unnecessary travel during rain and follow the instructions issued by local authorities.
