The Indian subcontinent is witnessing an expansion of the southwest monsoon, with favorable conditions anticipated to propel its reach into additional areas of Telangana and Chhattisgarh. This advancement comes on the heels of a 24-hour period marked by a spectrum of weather phenomena across the nation.

Lingering Disruptions

A persistent western disturbance continues to exert its influence over Jammu and Kashmir, situated at an altitude of 5.8 kilometers above mean sea level. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation persists over northwest Uttar Pradesh, extending up to 1.5 kilometers above mean sea level. Another such circulation disrupts the atmospheric equilibrium over east Uttar Pradesh and northeast Assam. A trough, acting as a channel for low-pressure air, stretches from the east Uttar Pradesh circulation to Nagaland, traversing sub-Himalayan West Bengal and South Assam. North Gujarat and South Rajasthan are also under the influence of a separate cyclonic circulation. A shear zone, a region of contrasting wind speeds and directions, is roughly positioned along latitude 17 degrees north, existing between 3.1 and 5.8 kilometers above mean sea level.

Past Precipitation Patterns

The last 24 hours have witnessed a diverse range of precipitation across India. Light to moderate rain, punctuated by occasional heavy downpours, drenched Konkan and Goa, south Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Maharashtra, pockets of Marathwada, Vidarbha, Sikkim, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura. Rainfall of a similar intensity graced Kerala, Lakshadweep, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, coastal Karnataka, northeast India, Gangetic West Bengal, Telangana, Rayalaseema, and North Tamil Nadu. Light rain fell upon interior Tamil Nadu and southeast Rajasthan. Simultaneously, several regions in Gangetic West Bengal and East Uttar Pradesh endured the scorching grip of heatwaves and severe heatwaves. These extreme temperatures also manifested in west Uttar Pradesh, south Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and northeast Madhya Pradesh.

Forecast for the Coming Day

The upcoming 24 hours hold the possibility of light to moderate rain, punctuated by occasional bursts of heavy precipitation, impacting Maharashtra, coastal and north interior Karnataka, and Telangana. Rainfall of a lighter to moderate intensity is anticipated over Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, south Chhattisgarh, and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Sporadic light rain might grace south Madhya Pradesh, south Gujarat, and southeast Rajasthan. Gangetic West Bengal, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand brace themselves for the potential return of heatwaves and severe heatwaves. Pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, and Odisha might also experience heatwave conditions.
